The same thing happened to me. I really think the slackers i worked with were jealous of my job performance and snubbed me while i worked with them. I was kind, quiet, & never a harsh word to anyone. It was a matter of a coworker kissed up to the boss and even though she put out 1/2 the work i did, I was laid off and she was not. Its who you know and who the boss likes the most.

I feel your pain. The same thing happened to me. If so, you don't have to give any explanation. Unfortunately, you are in good company. Many people who worked for one place for many years are now left without their jobs, but no one should expect you to explain why. It's not your fault, and it is better to focus on your next steps and plans than worrying about why it happened. If you were let go, but not as part of a layoff and the company did not give you a reason, you should provide a truthful explanation (only when requested) that makes the most sense. For example, "The company decided to re-focus their efforts in a different direction and my position was not needed."Either way, it is a good idea to follow David's advice - focus on moving on. There are many resources online, depending on your situation. I welcome you to visit my site, http://www.keppiecareers.com/ to help you start to gather the information you need to move forward. I have been in the same line of work for 20 years and have worked so hard for my employers so to find that my position was terminated, almost makes me feel ashamed for I know not what I did. I never even took vacation time, was honorable, hard working and completely honest -- always protecting the integrity of my employers. I'm at a loss.

What do you tell potential employers or employment agencies when you don’t know why you were even let go because NC does not have to tell you?
