  • J is for Junkie

This is a wonderful film shot in Atlanta, GA (where I lived for three years) that follows the lives of crack heads. As comical as the description is, the film treats them with dignity and exposes some interesting insights into their grim reality.

I was reminded of this film as I worked from Tea Lounge last week. It happened to be a night when Brooklyn Skillshare was putting on a free class about starting a documentary from scratch.

Great documentary, great lounge, and great class.

  • Wafels & Dinges

I happened upon this Waffle truck in NYC the other night when out with some friends. In addition to having waffles that are positively fabulous, the service was stellar and they’re doing all the right things online.

Now if only they were open later…

  • Ishita and Alex

I mentioned these guys yesterday, but I didn’t link to them.

Ishita is Seth Godin’s Head of Hoopla, the main reason I’m in NYC right now (true story), and a versatile public relations professional. In short, she gets the word out.

Alex is a freelance book designer, who makes art out of evertything he touches. Alex found his niche while working on The Domino Project, and I’m thrilled to promote his work whenever I can.

    Hire them.

  • Shout out

My time working on The Domino Project altered the course of my life.

It was a pleasure and an honor working alongside one of my heroes, who I’m now happy to call a friend. Additionally, I made six great friends who I hope to remain in regular contact with for the rest of my life.

Following the end of our time with Domino (it was always a six month contract), I assisted with the launch of endmalariaday.com which gave me the opportunity to flex some of my server and performance optimization chops (the site did 35K+ pageviews on launch day).

And today, Seth recognized Alex, Ishita, and me on the Domino blog…which actually inspired this redesign (smile). The design was originally created by my good friend Chase Reeves who is growing weary of my open praise and thanks, but I don’t care. Chase is the man.

Just thought I’d dust off the old blog and share a bit of what’s going on.

    What’s new with you?

  • Personal Page

Inspired by the work of Naz Hamid, I created a personal page recently: http://wlj2.com

Naz has since converted his to a Tumblr photoblog, but you can see what his page looked like before the switch. In other news, I’m looking forward to the long-awaited redesign of this site.

    Coming soon.

  • Ralph Waldo Emerson Pledge

Over at Domino HQ, we just launched the #Trust30 pledge and it’s being received extremely well.

It’s a 30-day writing challenge in conjuction with our launch of a reimagined version of Self-Reliance that leverages WordPress, MailChimp, the Domino platform, and a pinch of good luck.

I’m thrilled with how the site came out—take a look and get involved if it’s of interest. ::tips hat::

  • WordPress Security: Sucuri to the rescue

One of the most tragic issues to befall a blogger is a security breach.

If you’ve been blogging for any length of time on a site that gets any kind of traffic, you’ve probably experienced a hack of some sort at one point or another.

Many people point to WordPress as being insecure, but this isn’t entirely accurate (assuming a patched, up-to-date version of the application).

  • It’s really not that complicated

We complicate a lot of decisions unnecessarily. I see a lot of very smart people sabotaging their future by inventing things to be concerned about. It would appear as though highly actualized humans have a very good sense of what needs to be done; they (we) simply battle Resistance in executing.

    Just go.

  • Making money the smart way

I am a big advocate of teaching others how to do what you do, particularly when it can result in a measurable improvement in the quality of someone’s life.

Nick Reese has done just that (with some help from Chris Brogan) in his ebook that was just released, called How to turn Traffic and Trust into Sales (aff) and I hope you’ll take a look.

I’ve had a copy of the book for a while, so I can give it my enthusiastic endorsement without reservation. What also makes this post easy is the fact that Nick and Chris are living success stories when it comes to significant returns on affiliate marketing.

Plus they are both top-notch humans, which is actually what this post is about.
